Going into 2025, there will be new opportunities to experience the world, and technology will evolve to make travel even easier. The PreFlight team is always experimenting with the newest travel apps, and we’ve broken down what we think will be the best travel apps in 2025. This list is only for apps that are available for both iOS and Android.

Life360

What do they do? It keeps track of your travel companions on a map in real-time, allowing you to zoom down to the building where they may be located. It’s a great resource for keeping track of large groups or helping keep your loved ones up to date when you’re traveling. Personally, when I was on a trip, I got lost from my group and was able to zoom in and find my way back to my group based on their pin.

 

Best Features:

• Updates in real-time, and you can follow someone’s route
• Something we think is fun is being able to click a button to let your family know you love them
• You can create separate groups on your app so different people can get separate alerts, if you want your family to get different alerts from your travel group.

 

Cons: You can’t be on battery saving mode, and it can suck your battery faster than normal

 

Tips for the app:

You can pin specific locations that give alerts to your group when you reach the area.

You can also set up an SOS in case you ever feel unsafe. It will notify the people you care about.

 

Wanderboat

What do they do? Let AI help plan your next trip! Just tell Wanderboat where you want to go and what you want to do, and it will plan your trip from start to finish.

 

Best Features: You can add to your travel tickets or itinerary to include better customization options. It will also pull reviews for the locations.

 

Cons: It can spit out generic responses if you only include the destination and nothing else. You may have to give it more information to get good results. And if you are looking for specific rates for tickets or reservations, it's not the most accurate.

 

Tips for the app: Include as much detail as possible and add in your preferences about what you are interested in, or it's not going to be very helpful

 

Xe

What do they do? When you’re traveling to a different country, it's easy to overspend if you don’t know the conversion rates. With Xe, you can look up the conversion rates quickly.

 

Best Features: If you are looking to send money abroad or transfer currency, you’ll get the best rate and will be sent within 24 hours compared to other banks, which can take days.

 

Cons: There is a transfer fee when you pay with hard.

 

Tips for the app: Know that there is a transfer fee, fee based on the payment method, exchange rate, and any third-party fees based on your transaction. The best use for it is if you need to know how much you are spending in your local currency when you’re broad.

 

PreFlight Airport Parking

What do they do? If you want to park at the airport but don’t want to pay on-airport parking fees, PreFlight is the right product for you.

 

Best Features: They have a real-time shuttle tracker that’s always accurate based on the trackers on the buses.

 

Cons: Located only at 4 airports right now: Boston Logan Airport, Phoenix Sky Harbor, Chicago O’Hare Airport, and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Airport.

 

Tips for the app: Book your reservations early so you can save extra money and avoid any holiday price spikes.

 

Mobile Passport

What do they do? Like TSA Global Entry, Mobile Passport shortens the wait through American customs wait—but unlike Global Entry, this service is free! Mobile Passport allows you to fill out declaration forms ahead of time so you can skip the customs and immigration kiosks at US airports.

 

Best Features: Customs can take a long time. If you can speed up this process, it will improve your travel experience. You can add up to 12 people on one phone, so if you’re handling a big family trip, you can easily track it all at once.

 

Cons: It's not available at every airport, so check beforehand!

 

Tips for the app: Make sure to fill out your information while you still have an internet connection, or it won’t save

 

Culture Trip

What do they do? Similar to Wanderboat, this app helps you plan your trip and offers recommendations to make it more interesting. The key difference is that Culture Trip is based on real travelers and locals. It offers a more unique experience rather than the customized view of Wanderboat.

 

Best Features: You can book what you want to do right from the app, with free cancellations and the ability to save your favorite finds.

 

Cons: It can be glitchy and might not have a lot of options for your trip location.\

 

Tips for the app: Use it for discovery and to find interesting places

 

AccuWeather

What do they do? AccuWeather provides precise percentages of precipitation and displays the anticipated amount of rain/snowfall at no cost.

 

Best Features: Beyond basic weather data, AccuWeather presents air quality, allergy forecasts, and indoor humidity—valuable insights for acclimating to new weather conditions during travel.

 

Cons: No cons!

 

Google Translate

What do they do? You’re able to translate any language you hear or see in real-time through pictures or through the speaker and translate with good accuracy.

 

Best Features: You can download specific languages if you are in poor reception areas.

 

Cons: None experienced on our end but certain languages may lack vowel sounds like with Arabic or the translation will be too literal which can cause some of the translations to come across as confusing.

 

Tips for the app: It's easier to just show someone you are trying to communicate the text translation rather than using the text-to-speech
